Detroit's Water and Sewage Department says city residents should fill up their bathtub with water no later than 10 p.m. on Dec. 31, 1999, according to the Detriot News. Even though the department spent $50,000 million to prepare for the Y2K rollover, it is encouraging everyone to invest in three gallons of drinking water.

Oh, The Weather Inside Is Frightful

Some Michigan City prisoners were chilling out last week since their blankets were pilfered, according to the Times of Indiana. At a maximum security prison run by the state, officials found that several inmates were stockpiling stolen blankets in their cells in preparation for the winter weather. Correctional officers seized the contraband bedding and returned it to its original owners.

The Check May Or May Not Be In the Mail

Wisconsin is trying out a new way to send rebate checks to residents announce them ahead of time with a post card from Gov. Tommy G. Thompson. "We want to make sure people recognize them and don't throw them away," Revenue Secretary Cate Zeuske told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Officials refuse to announce the day or time that the checks will actually be sent out to stop thieves from raiding mailboxes. And the look of the check is also being withheld to vex counterfeiters.
