Priorities 2000: A Hawaiian View
By Gov. Ben Cayetano
|
|
Hawaii looks forward to a very busy, productive 2000. At the top of our state's agenda is improving public education and Hawaii's schools. In the past five years we've built more new schools that at any time in Hawaii's history; now we're prepared to commit significant resources to improve older schools.
Civil Service Reform is also a main priority. We cannot be successful in the new millennium with a government structure geared to the industrial age. We'll be introducing a Modernization Omnibus Bill to the 2000 legislature with the purpose of dramatically changing government by creating a more entrepreneurial, outcome driven environment.
And finally, as the economy in Asia recovers, Hawaii is seeing signs of a stronger, more vibrant marketplace. We'll be building on this growth with our focused effort to attract high-technology enterprises, and by introducing initiatives to streamline regulatory functions.
