Cuts to budget 'painful'



The House Finance Committee yesterday recommended making $47.1 million in general fund budget cuts in areas ranging from hospital payments to the state film commission. If the proposed cuts become law, state employee retirement contributions would increase, and several social service programs would be cut or eliminated.

Marriage initiative finds support in NH


Of the 133 New Hampshire towns that considered a measure to define marriage through the Legislature, 59 communities approved the initiative, while 33 defeated the question, according to Cornerstone Policy Research, a non-partisan, non-profit research and education organization.
